Cristofori, Bartolomeo

Bartolomeo Cristofori(1655-1731), Italian designer and custodian of instruments in the court of Prince Ferdinand de Medici of Florence. He is credited with inventing the first piano, or pianoforte. He developed a mechanical action that made it possible to sound simultaneously as many notes as one hand fingers.
