Arcangelo Corelli(1653-1713), Italian violin virtuoso and composer, studied violin with local teachers, his reputation was a performer and teacher. He was active as a performer and leader of small and large string ensembles in Rome homes and churches and public celebrations. He is regarded as the founder of the modern violin technique. As a composer his greatest achievement was the creation of the concerto grosso. He composed violin sonatas, oratorios, and concerti grosse.
