Copland, Aaron

Aaron Copland (1900-1990), American composer, conductor, pianist and writer on music, studied at the American Conservatory at Fontainbleau in Paris and also with Nadia Boulanger. His numerous awards include a Pulitzer Prize, and the Congressional Gold Medal.  He is known as "the dean of American composers", his music achieved a balance between modern music and American folk styles. He composed 2 operas, 3 symphonies, piano concerto, orchestral and chamber music; his popular works are: Appalachian spring, Rodeo, Lincoln Portrait, The Red Pony, El Salon Mexico.. etc.
