Chaliapin, Feodor

Feodor Chaliapin(1873-1938), Russian bass, after Caruso, the best known opera singer of his time. Born to a peasant family, he received little musical training. Joined a touring opera company with a great success, thereafter, he sang all over in Europe. He sang in New York Met, 1907-08, 1921-29; at Covent Garden,  1926-29; Chicago, 1922-24.
