Cervantes, Ignacio

Ignacio Cervantes(1847-1905), Cuban pianist and composer, one of the pioneers of the native Cuban music, started to study piano privately first, then entered the Paris Conservatory, won the first prize in composition and piano there. Returning to Cuba in 1870, he gave concerts to raise money for the rebel cause in the Ten Years' War. He composed one opera and various chamber music.
