Enrico Caruso(1873-1921), Italian lyric and dramatic tenor. He started to study voice at the early age, and began to sing operas mainly in Italy: Naples, Sicily, Milan, then touring south America and Russia. In 1902 he made his debut at Monte Carlo and Covent Garden with dazzling triumphs. After his New York debut on Nov. 23, 1903, he sang every season for the Metropolitan and came to call U.S. his "stepmother" country. His standard reportory encompassed 59 operas.
