John Cage(1912-1992), American composer and writer on music. He attended Pomona College for two years, then went to Europe to study music privately. He held few academic positions: Wesleyan University, 1960-61, University of Cincinnati, 1967; Univ. of Illinois, 1967-69; and Univ. of Calif. at Davis 1969. He composed piano concerto, sonatas, orchestral music.
